This game was made in Godot in 12 hours for a Game Dev GAUNTLET challenge: "No Letter E".

Check out the entire, livestreamed-development here!
https://youtube.com/live/g-xcY-w0Mlg

The challenge was to not use the letter E in any of the game's .gd script files, except for "extends" at the top of the script.

Nodes added to the scene tree also had to not have the letter "E" in them and they couldn't have their original names changed, only appended to.

The letter "E" is not present in any on screen text either!

Finally, for every hour I didn't finish the game, the chat would vote on a new theme I had to incorporate... I got them all (relative to their context) except for the last one, "Background"!

Extra themes: Storms, Cats, Gravity, Bees, Bubbles, Big ol Dog, Goats, Merge n Pull, More Cats, Just Finish It, and Background.

It was so difficult...

But I learned a ton and had lots of help from the Hyper Game Dev community.

Whew, I'm proud as heck of this score. That got tough after a while, really capturing the inevitability of being unable to save everything. But my goodness, I love how the game only moves forward when you move the mouse, so you can strategize or merely come to grips with the fact that SO many animals are about to plummet.

And I love that it sounds like it was such an adventure to make this, with the community adding new themes to incorporate for each hour you didn't finish and not being able to use the letter "e"!!!!

You are definitely queen of the challenges, no doubt! 🏆

Thank you so much for playing this Beth!

Getting even the draw is not easy, so that's a very nice score indeed!

It does get so fast right? I'm glad you liked getting to control the game progress 🤗 That mechanic was completely necessary since, without the letter E, there was no other way to make things "happen" normally. So any input detected (mouse movement) advances the game instead!

Big adventure for sure, and I couldn't have done it without the community.

Oh that's brilliant, using the mouse input as the method BECAUSE of the "no 'e' use" challenge. Super clever, way to figure that out and make it work so well! Congrats to you and the community for sure 🙌
